PROGRAM DETAILS

We select candidates for vocational training and offer German language preparation. This enables their application to the German employers in our network. The jobs are usually in blue-collar occupations such as electrician, mechanical engineer or nurse.

These opportunities require a knowledge of German language at a level of B1 or above. Therefore, we look for candidates who already have basic knowledge of German. We also offer language classes to help prepare candidates for interviews.

Eligibility criteria:

  • High school degree (KCSE for Kenyan candidates) is required.
  • Language: EITHER you took German in your KCSE and received a B- or better; OR you have a valid certificate of B1 or better.
  • Other requirements such as KCSE subjects and grades depend on the specific apprenticeship.

Timeline:

  1. Apply April 1st – June 9th 2024.
  2. In July-December 2024, we will offer further language preparation if needed (we offer financing for these classes). The classes will be online or in-person, accessible for all candidates.
  3. Interviews with German employers take place in early 2025.
  4. Vocational training in Germany begins in August or September 2025.
  5. During training, we will support our candidates with accommodation search, paperwork etc. if needed.

Financing:

Deraja does not charge agency fees from candidates. This ensures that we select the most suitable and motivated candidates, independent of their financial means.

However, some candidates may need financing before going to Germany: for the language class and exam, visa fee, and travel costs. For these candidates, we offer fair financing which the candidates repay once they have a job in Germany.

Our partner for financing these expenses is malengo.org, a German charity for international educational migration.
